Christmas Services – Anglican Parish of Amberley

Christmas Eve,  5pm: The not-to-be-missed Children’s Service at 5pm, with Nativity Play. Children are always welcome to dress up as angels, shepherds, etc… This year’s play is entitled: ‘X-Factor Bethlehem!’

Christmas Eve Holy Communion, 11.15pm.  Reverend Jane Davison will preside and preach in this parish for the last time before her retirement.  (Her final service will be on Sunday 28/12).

Christmas Day, 8.00am Holy Communion, St. Paul’s, Leithfield
Christmas Day, 9.15am Holy Communion, Holy Innocents, Amberley

The First Sunday of Christmas, 28th December, 10.30am: We are invited to join our friends from the Parish of Woodend-Pegasus Parish for an informal outdoor picnic and Eucharist at St Barnabas, Woodend. Please note the 10.30am start. We will farewell Reverend Jane at that time.

Our new Archdeacon

Lynnette's collationLast Saturday, our own Rev’d Lynnette Lightfoot was collated by Bishop Victoria as the new Archdeacon for North Canterbury. Members of Lynnette’s parishes – Amberley and Woodend-Pegasus – travelled to Christchurch to witness her accepting this role. The formalities took place during the Diocesan Synod at St Christopher’s Church, Avonhead, and was celebrated during lunch. May God bless you, Rev’d Lynnette, as you undertake this ministry over what is a fairly large geographical area — but at least the scenery is lovely on the journeys between parishes!

We begin the Great Thanksgiving, 9 March 2014

Below are a few photos of last Sunday’s Pet Blessing service, which was also the 1st Sunday in Lent — Revd Llewellyn did well to combine these two themes in his short, child-friendly sermon!  Parishioners and visitors brought their much-loved pets to be blessed during an outdoor Eucharist on the lawn at Holy Innocents. Our new deacon

ImageWelcome Llewellyn!

Rev’d Llewellyn Smith is part of the clergy team caring for both the Amberley parish and the Woodend-Pegasus parish. Many people from both parishes were delighted to attend his ordination on Saturday 4th May, where he was made a Deacon.

Llewellyn and his family—wife Cheryl and two teenaged children— are from South Africa. They have other family members in New Zealand and have been settled here for some years.
