August 2017 saw the beginning of a new community-facing program based in our church hall – the wonderful Mainly Music event for parents and young children. Parish priest Reverend Stephanie saw a need in the Amberley/Leithfield community for more activities during the week for preschoolers and their mums/dads. After gauging the level of available support and involvement from parishioners, Stephanie decided to go ahead and offer Mainly Music every Thursday during term time.
Many of our more “mature” parishioners whose children are now grown (or at least teenagers) can well remember the fun and companionship of Mainly Music when we ourselves had “littlies” to care for and amuse, and it feels good to be able to offer this to younger parents in our community in our turn.
Just spending time with other parents in a supportive environment, with the children happily engaged, can be a cure for parental isolation and a great way to meet and make friends. As for the children, they get to sing, make noise and move to music, which is good for their development at all levels, and lots of fun too!
